Evacuation and rescue are practised at height. Participants will be expected to work almost entirely from within the confines of protected areas but are able to move to exposed areas if necessary to carry out straightforward work tasks.
Our Work at Height in the Entertainment Industry course provides a range of skills for accessing and working at height on stage structures including the use of all safety equipment, evacuation and rescue.
Includes the elements of a Safe System of Work, including equipment selection and inspection, use of tools, risk assessment, method statements and emergency procedures with practical experience and classroom taught sessions. Includes all of syllabus TFPO – Introduction to personal fall protection (WAHSA), plus a large range of practical exercises and theoretical lessons within the theatre environment.
Course elements covered include:
- Legal, personal and medical requirements for work at height
- Risk assessment, method statements, emergency procedures
- Selection, care and maintenance of equipment
- Climbing techniques, including basic progression along a theatre truss
- Work restraint, work positioning and fall arrest systems
- Use of ropes and knots
- Rescue after a fall
Practical skills covered in this course include:
- Safe use of Personal Protective Equipment
- Proper execution of simulated work task
- Competent rescue of casualty from structure
- lowering a casualty
- competent rescue of a casualty after a fall
- Ensuring safety of self and others.
- Simulated work exercise

Our theatre technician training course provides background knowledge for the working at height section of the PLASA National Rigging Certificate.
This course is ideally suited to technicians, riggers and stage hands working in theatres, concert halls or film sets and are required to work from lighting truss and other similar structures.

It is the participants/bookers responsibility to ensure that all relevant pre-requisites are met to attend this course and that the evidence is provided on the first day of the course e.g. in-date certificates for revalidation courses. Failure to meet any of these pre-requisites may result in the participant being asked to leave the course. No refund will be given in this event.
