MATS Rooftop Worker – Safety & Access course has been developed in collaboration with the telecoms and broadcast industry Mast and Tower Safety (MATS) Group.

Mast & Tower Safety Group MATS Conference

This one day course is designed to support the safety of those individuals who access and work on flat rooftops, particularly in the telecoms industry and is a mandatory requirement to work on BT and Arqiva sites.

The MATS Rooftop Worker training course includes:

  • Understanding the legislation and safety standards
  • Managing common hazards
  • Assessing the risk
  • Using harnesses
  • Using fall arrest lanyards
  • Using fixed fall arrest and restraint systems
  • Using work positioning lanyards or similar equipment
  • Selecting appropriate anchor points
  • Setting up and using temporary work restraint system
  • Working with edge protection systems
  • Using additional fall protection equipment
  • Consideration of emergencies and rescue arrangements
  • Suspension syncope awareness
  • Lifting and lowering kit
  • Demonstrating climbing techniques on fixed ladders

The MATS Rooftop Worker training course incorporates the relevant requirements of the following HSE legislation: Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, Work at Height Regulations 2005, Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) 1998, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998.

Conforms to MATS requirements. Scheme completion is a mandatory requirement for access to BT and Arqiva sites. 

MATS Participants ESSENTIAL – PLEASE NOTE:

  1. Course costs include EUSR registration and Virtual Card.
  2. EUSR registrations – Participants who are already registered with EUSR must provide their ID numbers at course registration. First time registrants must provide a digital passport photo (.jpg format) and mobile phone number when booking. For more information see MATS Group and EUSR.
  3. To access the EUSR virtual cards you will need to download the EUSR ‘Vircarda’ app on your mobile phone. For more information see Vircarda User Guide
  4. MATS participants are required to bring a government issued ID (passport or driving license) which will be checked at registration on their course.
  5. Safety footwear required for all practical sessions.

NB: This course was previously referenced as: TFP5U. Course does not including working on pitched or fragile roofs.

Participants who require RF Hazards training should complete the RF Hazards Awareness & Monitoring 0.5 day course (TSK4U).

EXPIRED CERTIFICATES:

  • EUSR registration for the Rooftop Worker scheme is for 3 years from the date of assessment.
  • Registration renewal on EUSR is required after 3 years and is dependent upon you being able to demonstrate continued competence evidenced through the completion of the 1-day training and assessment programme.

It is the participants/bookers responsibility to ensure that all relevant pre-requisites are met to attend this course and that the evidence is provided on the first day of the course e.g. in-date certificates for revalidation courses. Failure to meet any of these pre-requisites may result in the participant being asked to leave the course. No refund will be given in this event.
