This three day course offers practical and theoretical training in rigging, lifting and emergency first aid at height with the first aid module being EFAW certified.
Day 1 & Day 2
Rigging and lifting is a foundation course for the lifting, fixing and adjusting of light to medium loads up to 100kg. The course covers planning, preparing for and executing lifting operations together with knowledge of the selection, use, inspection and maintenance of appropriate lifting equipment. It aims to revise and assess lifting and installation skills for steelwork and antennas up to approximately 2 m diameter (note: it does not cover man riding system or winches).
The rigging and light lifting course covers legislation, planning and selection of equipment via rigging exercises and assessment at height.
Course elements covered include:
- Manual Handling Regulations
- Lifting Operations – Lifting Equipment Regulations – LOLER
- Inspection of equipment and record keeping
- Storage and care of equipment
- SWL and WLL calculations
- Estimation of weight to be lifted
- Slinging techniques
- Knots used for lifting operations
- Pulley theory
- Planning the lifting operation
- Awareness of RF hazards on site
- Map reading and compass skills
Practical skills covered include:
- Demonstrate safe manual handling techniques
- Carry out pre-use checks of equipment
- Demonstrate slinging methods and knots
- Create mechanical advantage pulley systems 2:1, 3:1 and 6:1
- Demonstrate use of pilot lines
- Proper execution of a practical exercise in lifting
- Install and align transmitter as required
Safety footwear required for all practical sessions.
Day 3
Emergency First Aid at Height (EFAW Certified) is an introductory first aid course for nominated first aider. EFAW certification is the minimum qualification to meet the first aid requirements of companies working at height.
Designed for people who manage the first aid requirements for work sites or offices and take responsibility for first aid arrangements to comply with the needs of Health & Safety (First Aid Regulations) 1981.
Provides all the practical skills and knowledge from making initial assessment and administering first aid to recording and reporting incidents. Teaches participants how to promptly assess, prioritise and manage incidents, deal with minor injuries, casualty handling, administration of first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
The course contains both theory and practical training.

- Basic life support
- Examination of a casualty
- Unconsciousness
- Control of bleeding
- Burns and scalds
- Regulations
- First aid kits
- Recording and reporting
Practical skills covered include:
- Casualty handling
- Administration of first aid safely, promptly and efficiently to:
- A casualty who is unconscious
- A casualty who is wounded or bleeding and / or in shock
- A casualty who is choking, or who has difficulty breathing
- Administration of cardio pulmonary resuscitation – CPR
- Provision of appropriate first aid for minor injuries
Safety footwear is required for all practical training sessions.
The course certificate is valid for a three year period, after which participants will need to revalidate their training. However, it is advised that participants refresh their training every 12 months.
